Reunion Report 2012
All Together Again: March 29-April 1, 2012
During January 2012, brochures announcing our SJCAA 115th Annual Reunion began to appear in mailboxes. The milestone classes 1962, 1967 and 1972 were contacting classmates and exerting extra energy in tracking down long-lost friends from their days in the Valley. As winter continued, our Reunion Chair, Christine Roos Mehl ’70, and Co-chair Leslie Henze Blackstock ’70 were finalizing the BEO (Banquet Event Order) with the Wyndham staff and making certain enough chairs were ordered for the Golden Class’s hospitality area.
Between planning for meals, room set-ups, and transportation of Reunion supplies from storage to the hotel, the Reunion Chairs also ensured that we had enough Board volunteers to staff the registration desk, Allegra’s Alley and the basket raffle. Obviously, a tremendous amount of time, energy and care goes into planning and holding our Annual Reunion. Each year, we seem to improve upon what we did the year before, and 2012 was no exception. Thank you, Christine and Leslie! You worked so hard and added so many personal touches to the Wyndham setting. We all felt pampered!
Winter was reasonably gentle this year. New green was obvious in the hills and fields of Pennsylvania and Maryland as alums began arriving at the Gettysburg Wyndham. A springtime rain fell during our March 29-April 1 celebration, but, thankfully, the heaviest downfall took place while most of us were sleeping!
More than 110 alumnae registered for Reunion events. If you were one of the attendees, your smiles and appreciative comments made all the work on the part of so many SJC women very worthwhile. Here are just a few of the accolades we received:
It was a great Reunion. So much fun to see everyone!! The songs – hmmmm! Amazing how the words came back as we started singing -- who says we're getting old! And by the way - everyone looks great - even better than in ’72 . . . I really enjoyed reconnecting with everyone. I think we can all rise to the challenge of the class of '67 - we can top 40 this time …
Thank you for ALL you did to make our Reunion weekend so memorable! From my Friday afternoon arrival to my Sunday morning departure, it was so good to be ‘all together’ with Joe's Girls. The special times arranged for our class were perfect. I don't know how many times during those gatherings I just found myself looking around at the familiar faces and just smiling -- so glad to see so many classmates again!
Thank you . . . . thank you . . . thank you! It was all wonderful, and we got to mix and mingle, share and laugh . . . oh we did laugh! How did we remember all the words to those hokey songs? . . . thanks for finding the lost members of our class. I didn't know that I was lost . . . .but now I'm found! The friends closest to the heart are only a memory away . . .
After all these years of sending news about my family and reading the newsletter, I FINALLY went to an SJC reunion -- and now I know what I've been missing for so long! It was fun, exciting, uplifting, a little sad at times, but an all-together wonderful experience and I am so very glad I was talked into attending! And the part about never being back and coming back, is really good....

Noise, Enthusiasm, Laughter
Reunion Chair Christine Roos Mehl ’70 had this to say:
I think each Reunion improves from the previous because of what we learn from each one. We see what works well, what doesn't, and all of us talk about ways to make it better. The Wyndham is a great venue. The staff was wonderful to work with and could not do enough for us. I was so happy and thankful for the ‘noise, enthusiasm, and laughter,’ for lack of a better description, that was present at the Saturday evening banquet. It was great to see the classes having such a good time.
The “noise, enthusiasm and laughter” Christine describes were complemented by Gladys Gdula Waldron ’62, who delivered the traditional “memory” speech for the golden jubilee class with many humorous asides. One of the best included a reference to the SJC “social committee” composed of two grandmothers: Mrs. Mulholland and Mrs. Tighe. ALL three of the milestone classes qualified for the “rowdiest” bunch of celebrants we’ve had in a very long time. Perhaps we should have an award for the most spirited class!
The Class of 1962 won the Hassell Vase, while the Class of 1972 won the Sr. Mary Ellen Kelley Award. The Class of 1952 Award, traditionally known as the "Husband’s Cup," went to the Class of 1962 for the highest number of husbands and registered guests in attendance. If you weren’t there, we missed you!

Remember that Reunions are not only for the milestone classes but for every one of us! Our campus life included an easy mix of women in all classes. We all remember our Big and Little Sisters, our “orientation” and campus leaders , and our “proctors,” as well as our roommates and best friends! Come back to the Valley and celebrate being “All Together” again. Mark your calendars now for April 4 -7, 2013 at the Wyndham Gettysburg. Add to the “noise, enthusiasm and laughter” – we are counting on seeing (and hearing) you!
