Toby Karl McManmon '61
Toby McManmon, a native of New Jersey and a long-time resident of Sierra Madre, died peacefully on May 28, 2015. She had most recently been a resident of Mt. San Antonio Gardens in Claremont-Pomona.
Toby graduated Summa Cum Laude from St. Joseph’s College in Emmitsburg, MD and received a Master’s in Social Work from St. Louis University. Her social work career included meaningful advocacy, administration, training, collaboration, grant-writing, and therapy for children and families. She had particular interest in culture and the immigration experience. As a first generation American of Irish and Austrian descent, she honored her heritage and was intensely interested in the peoples and cultures of the world.
In Sierra Madre, she helped initiate Shakespeare in the Park, the Sierra Madre Arts & Crafts Fair, and CLIMB Christmas parties. She most recently enjoyed the Sierra Madre 4th of July parade with her family.
She is survived by her daughter Katie Simon McManmon and her grandson Quinn, as well as her deceased son Robert’s daughter Fiona Hughes Reyes and great-granddaughters Aoife and Aine.
